The Power of Return on Emotion in Pursuing Purpose
I’m 44 years old, and if there is one thing life has taught me, it’s that success isn’t about money, status, title, or the next big achievement. We spend so much time chsing return on investment (roi), making sure our careerrs, business, and relationships are “paying off” in traditional ways, but what if the most meaningful measure of success is actually return on emotion (roe)? This concept has changed the way I view life and work, ROE isn’t just about feeling good, its about how our choices impact our energy, realtionships and personal fullfillment. When we are emotionaly aligned, we attract the right opporutnties, the right people and the right experiences. Our energy shapes our reality, and when focus on emotional returns we begin to move through life with more joy, clarity, and ease. Most of know, or have heard about the flow state, when you can go on and on for hours, losing track of time becuase your so engaged in what your doing. It’s not forced, its not draining. It’s alignment.
Navigating New Paths with Confidence
I used to seek validation from others before making a move – waiting for approval, hoping they’d see my vision. Then after reading Mel Robbinis “Let Them”, theory everything changed. If people dont underrstand your dreams, let them. If they don’t support your growth, let them. The truth is noot everyone is meant to come on your journey, and it’s okay. (Breathe) When stepping into a new chapter, whether its launching a business, chaning careers, moving to a new place, or simply setting booundraies consider this tip, it’s something I use everyday.
When you get that feeling inside you, of passion, inspiration, energy & adreneline, enthisaism that is your emotional sign to GO. Keep doing more of that. There lies the path to more of what is in alignment with you. Your energy feels light, you smile for no reason, your heart feels as if you come alive from the inside. That’s your green light baby, GO. Warning lights, hesitation, uncertainity, your heart tugs in all directions. That’s the sign to look around, what is impacting that emotion and energy? Pause and evaluate. Proceed with caution. Now, when you get that overwhelming feeling, dread, exhasution, resitance that is the sign to STOP.
Don’t fight the emotions, rather use them as your navigation tool to find new paths and walk with confidence. Pay attention to how your feel in difrent enviroments your in. Your enviroment infleucnes your energy. Finding the right community is also crucial, when your around people who geniuenly care, inspire, support and uplift you, those are your people. Keep you guard up and use you emotions to help guide you, your warning lights will signal the people around you who are real, and those whoo are fake. Ask yourself, do my suroundings help me shine, or are the dimming my light ?
Business Leaders Who Prioritize ROE
Some of the most successful leaders measure their business not just by profits, but by how their employees and customers feel. The Former CEO of Zappos, Tony Hsieh built the foundation of Zappos on a culture of happiness and emotional connection. He believed that happy employes create happy customers, which leads to sustainable succes. Zappos became known for their excellent customer service, not becuase of strict policies but becuase employees where empowerd to go above and beyond for cusotmers. His focus on company culture, workplace satisfaction, proved that priortizing ROE leads to brand loyatly and success. Same for the founder of SPANX, (love her) Sara Blakely, she built her empire focusing on the emotional connection with her customers.
The Role of Passion in Purpose and Growth
Passion isn’t a luxury its a necessity. It’s what fuels our creativity and our ability of push through challenges. When our work aligns with our purpose it no longer feels like work. But, How do you know if your work aligns with purpose ? Well simply, you know your work aligns with your purpose when you hit the flow state, when it energizes you rather than drains you. When your days feel fullfilling, not just productive. It’s when you wake up excited, not dreading the day ahead. Purpose aligned work gives you a sense of meaning, a reason to get things done. To integrate passion into your life and ensure your worrk aligns with your purpose pay attention to what lights you up. Find and do the things that bring you enegry, and find people that inspire you. When you engage in work that is aligned with your values and stengths, it naturally fuels your enthusiasim, even if you hit a bump in the road, your not just doing if for a paychekc but because its a part of who you are.
Measuring Your Life in Happiness
Are you waking up excited for the day? Do you feel energized by your work and realtionships? Are you making decisions that align with your heart and not just your wallet? When you focus on return on emotion you naturaly build a joyful life. The real measure oof success is happiness. So as you move through life, as your self,
Are you designing your life based on what truly makes you happy?
